Frequently Asked Questions
How do you make money on free tours?
Our free tours are dependent on tips from happy customers to continue operating. We work extremely hard to impress our visitors and make sure that we earn whatever they offer at the end of their tour.
Are the tours appropriate for children?
The Ottawa Historical Tavern Tour takes place in bars, so it is strictly 19+.
All are welcome on our outdoor walking tours, however, the content of our tours isn't really designed for children. We don't talk about anything too inappropriate, but they’re not designed to entertain kids and children under 13 may find it a tad dry.
Do you offer Private Tours?
Yes! Check our our Private Tours page for more info.
Do you offer tours in other languages?
Do tours run during bad weather?
Tours run rain or shine, so please bring an umbrella if you're worried about a downpour and a coat if it seems chilly.
What should I bring with me on a tour?
Comfortable shoes and water are definitely two good things. Tours are roughly 2 hours, so whatever you need to be comfortable for 90 minutes of walking around town would be great.
Why do tours operate at different times of the year?
We do our best to maintain a schedule of tours that is best suited for the season and crowds. Ottawa gets a large influx of tourists in June, July and August, so we offer more tours at that time. The Historical Tavern Tour happens entirely indoors, so it's the only one that we run during the winter when it's too cold to be outside.
Can I bring my dog on an outdoor tour?
You can bring your dog on an outdoor tour if it is calm and very well behaved. We reserve the right to ask you to leave or to refuse to let you join a tour if your dog is disturbing others.
